An assessment of the exterior vehicle noise plays an increasingly important role in analyzing the overall vehicle acoustics. On the one hand, legislation regulates noise emissions by introducing maximum ratings; on the other, the rising demand for comfort on the part of car owners is resulting in a steady reduction in the exterior noise levels of motorized vehicles.

Pass By

Exterior noise measurements play a part in the granting of certification by official authorities, as well as in the fields of vehicle development and production quality assurance. PAK measurement systems support the user in conducting exterior noise measurements on measuring tracks pursuant to

ISO 362
UN-ECE R 51.03 and
UN-ECE R 41

with its user-friendly operation. It determines the noise level of a passing vehicle by means of two microphones positioned at a distance of 7.5 m from the vehicle track center as a function of the driven distance.

Simulated Pass By

PAK data acquisition systems also support measuring exterior noise on testbenches by simulating Pass By. Extensive exterior noise measurements can be conducted on different vehicle models on a roller test bench for the purpose of developing a characteristic and recognizable vehicle sound without having to take weather conditions into account.

Idle Noise Measurement

The measurement of idle noise in line with ISO 5130 §6.3 rounds off the PAK system as a comprehensive measuring and analysis tool for measuring exterior noise.
